My experience with The Cosmetic Dentists of Austin was anything but ordinary. Most people see them to perfect their smiles and get a beautiful new set of teeth. That was not my goal when I went for my first consultation in February. I've had TMJ (also called TMD) for over ten years, but up until December it had been dormant for almost as long. I had a filling in December that triggered it again to the point where I was taking 4-6 Advil every 4-6 hours. I saw an oral surgeon who recommended two years of braces, jaw surgery that would have my jaw wired shut for 8-10 weeks then braces again for 2 more years and a night guard for the rest of my life. And that was the best case scenario. This was after seeing me for 5 minutes, not even looking at my mouth, jaw or charts from my dentist who referred me to him. Needless to say I was devastated. I wore braces almost my entire life and absolutely refused to wear them again. I went back to my dentist and asked her for a second opinion. She then referred me to The Cosmetic Dentists of Austin because she'd heard Dr. Schiro speak at a conference and knew they were doing amazing things with TMJ patients. It took some time (not NEARLY the time it would have taken had I gone the oral surgeon's route), but after wearing an orthotic for a few months and have NO pain I got a brand new set of teeth built up to my new bite in June. I'm not saying it was a perfect transition. There's been some adapting to my new bite, many appointments for adjustments and it's still in the beginning stages of healing, but my pain is considerably less than what it was when I went in and I HIGHLY recommend it for anyone who doesn't want to go the surgery route, particularly when there's no guarantee that it will fix the problem. The staff at The Cosmetic Dentists of Austin are amazing. They are far and away the best staff I've ever worked with for any service I've ever needed--not just medical/dental. Amber does a fabulous job of explaining how the process works and they're available for any questions you might have. My entire process was done with Dr. Hay, who I can't say enough nice things about. He was available to answer my questions, he called personally to follow up, he fit me in for appointments when I needed to get adjusted and was always kind and in a great mood. Dr. Hay was patient and understanding, just like his hilarious and sweet assistants: Jenn and Julie. Ashley was always willing to make appointments and follow up with me on the phone and Hesper did a fantastic job working with me on the financial side of things. Their dental hygienist, Dani, will make your smile sparkle when it's all said and done. So for anyone thinking of going to The Cosmetic Dentists of Austin for your TMJ or TMD issues, my experience has been nothing short of amazing and life changing. Not to mention the side benefit for fixing the pain caused by my TMJ--I now have a beautiful smile, something I never thought I'd have. Their consultations are free so trust me when I say you will want to go in and hear what they have to say. 🙂

My husband recently had his missing teeth replaced. He put it off for years because other dentists had told him it would take between 6-8 months to get his teeth replaced. After finding The Cosmetic Dentist of Austin he had temporary teeth after just two visits, just in time for our niece's wedding. They also cleaned my teeth and created teeth whiteners for me. The staff is very welcoming and made us feel like we were their only patients. It was a great experience and my husband looks better than he has in 10 years.
